What the United Nations is doing for the safety of journalists?

 


UNESCO is the United Nations specialized agency with a mandate to defend freedom of expression and press freedom, which has meant that the Organization has had a long-standing commitment to foster the safety of journalists. UNESCO’s Constitution explicitly states that the Organization’s mission is “to promote the free flow of ideas by word and image”. Over the years UNESCO has led, within the UN system, The implementation of a comprehensive strategy aimingat protection and promotion of safety of journalists and fighting impunity of perpetrators of crimes against journalists
